SEME Congress 2023

SEME Congress 2023

Congreso SEME 2023

Hello,

This time we want to tell you and share with you a part of our work that we like very much, which is to keep learning, training and informing ourselves. This time we attended the 38th edition of the SEME Congress and here we share our experience.

What is the SEME Congress?

The congress is organised by the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine and is the most important in Spain in this sector; new developments, updates, scientific papers, etc. are presented. It is attended by members of the SEME, specialists in Aesthetic Medicine of various nationalities, as well as doctors from other specialties. It also brings together the dermocosmetic industry, lasers, equipment, different ranges of hyaluronic acid and other materials.

And why is it so important?

To give you an idea of the magnitude of this event, the previous edition was attended by more than 2,200 doctors, 500 sales representatives and close to 3,000 people[1]. Every year attendance records are broken!

In addition to bringing together experts from all over Spain and presenting current topics, new treatments and techniques, as well as case studies and scientific papers, this part of the event gets better and better every year.

What struck us the most…

SEME offers several pre-congress courses in areas such as Clinical Management, Anaesthesia, Emergency, Ultrasound, Trichoscopy, Dermatoscopy. These courses are held simultaneously so attendees must choose only one. This year we decided to do the course on Ultrasound applied to Aesthetic Medicine, which is a subject that has been talked about a lot in recent times and there are very different opinions.

On the other hand, we were surprised and very pleased with the session on botulinum toxin. The speakers showed novelties and the session was multidisciplinary, bringing together specialists in Neurology, Maxillofacial Surgery, Ultrasound, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Of particular interest in this segment was the rejuvenation of the gaze and the presentation on intramuscular and intradermal injection.

Another fascinating lecture for us dealt with the adverse effects of filler materials, focusing on prevention and treatment, including inflammatory reactions and vascular complications. In this block, the presentation of an action protocol for possible ocular complications was a highlight.

One of the novelties of the congress was the symposium “SEME and Science, bases of research in aesthetic medicine”, which gave us some important insights into the production of a scientific paper and its publication.

Another very interesting topic was the “Aesthetic footprint” by Dr. Jaime Tufet, on the trace and impact that the medical-aesthetic treatments we undergo over the years can have. This subject, as well as the conference on the psychological aspect of medical-aesthetic treatments, helped us to become aware of situations that can go unnoticed.

These are some of the things we saw at the congress that caught our attention, but there were many more things that were interesting and that have helped us to continue working and thus not only feed our passion for aesthetic medicine, but also continue to grow as professionals to provide the best for our patients.
