Gabriela ROCA

Bolivian artist currently living and working in Barcelona. She completed a Master’s Degree in Plastic Arts Research at the University of Strasbourg, France. She exhibits her art through installations, paintings, performances and documenting the latter.

The studies she previously carried out in the area of medicine have influenced her artistic career, since the body is a subject of interest and question in her daily practice. In the project carried out for The Essential Clinic, the artist made a series of paintings where she does not focus on an object of representation, but on the expression and physical movement of the body.

The artist drops the brush and easel aside to create paintings on the floor with different parts of her body, like her hair, her nose, her lips or her breasts. It is an encounter between skin and paper, a contact of exquisite simplicity where the body gesture is the predominant.

ROCA also uses dripping, a technique where she gives expression to impulse… chance. Between painting and performance, this exhibition accompanies the pure and minimalist aesthetic of the clinic, stripping us of excessive elements and concentrating our focus on the ESSENTIAL.
